Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Richard E. Straughn to the 10th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.
Richard E. Straughn, 53, of Winter Haven, has been a lawyer with Straughn & Turner, P.A., since 1983. He succeeds Melodie Johnson-Lopez and is appointed from a list of nominees submitted by the Florida Bar.
Each of their terms ends July 1, 2016.
Mark Turner has been elected chair of Polk State College’s district board of trustees. Turner will take the place of Teresa Martinez, who will serve out her term on the board until its conclusion in May 2013. Turner was enthusiastic for his opportunity to serve as chair.
“Polk State has a great administration, and, in the next year, I hope we can continue on the path that we’re on and keep looking for opportunities to meet the needs of our community,” Turner said.
Polk State President Eileen Holden welcomed the new officers: “Our trustees have elected leaders with deep ties to our institution and the communities we serve. Their experiences with our foundation and here on the board will serve us well in their new leadership roles.”
